The charity shop affectionately known as Vinnies has two outlets in Chatswood, one in the popular thoroughfare, The Orchard Arcade (at the railway end of Victoria Avenue) and another three-storey emporium further down Victoria Avenue. As you probably already know, Vinnies sell a range of secondhand clothes, books, toys and homewares in good condition.

Due to its proximity to the Chatswood CBD and the main shopping precinct, the Orchard Arcade Vinnies is a perfect place to browse during a lunch break. The volunteers take care to display eye-catching items in the shop window, luring casual passers-by into taking a more detailed look.

The massive three-storey Vinnies in Victoria Avenue is worth more time, so I suggest you set aside a Saturday morning to have a hunt. The ground level is mostly dedicated to men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, with some homewares and a few accessories. Upstairs you’ll find furniture and other household odds and ends. In the basement is a maze of bookshelves housing all genres of books, plus a small range of CDs and toys. You’ll be sure to find something to buy.
